Want to make your cat happy? Get a cat tree!
Why do cats love cat trees?
- A sense of security (the higher, the better)
- The ability to play & exercise (climb and scratch).
- The need for marking their territory (in a good way by leaving their scent on the scratching posts). Cat especially love a cat tree with sisal rope-covered posts – a 3/8″ thick sisal rope is an excellent thickness for really sinking their claws into it.
- The comfort of a nice, warm sleeping spot (heat rises)
According to well-known cat behaviorist, Pam Johnson-Bennett, “Cats make use of horizontal and vertical aspects of the environment. In fact, they rely on vertical areas for safety, comfort and certainly for fun. Providing your cat with vertical options in his territory isn’t just a luxury, it’s a crucial part of feline life. In a multicat home, vertical territory can make the difference between a happy household and a feline battleground. One of the easiest ways to increase vertical territory is with a cat tree.”
As the owner of eight cats and four cat trees, I can attest to the hardship of keeping a well-used cat tree looking good. So I decided to make a short “how to” video that will show you the steps necessary to refurbish and revitalize your cat tree because we don’t want any old, worn out cat trees ending up in a landfill.
Check out the video here and feel free to share it with your cat-loving friends:
